The global steel industry is accelerating its shift towards sustainability, with electric arc furnaces (EAFs) playing a key role in reducing CO₂ emissions. South Korea’s largest steel producer, POSCO, is building an EAF plant at its Gwangyang site in South Jeolla Province. With a planned annual capacity of 2.5 million tonnes, commissioning is set for 2026.
To support in-plant transport at the new facility, POSCO has selected heavy-duty solutions from TII KAMAG. The delivery includes three specialized vehicles: a 22-metre-long KAMAG Industrial Lift Transporter (IHT) with two underfloor driver’s cabins, capable of carrying up to 500 tonnes of molten steel on pallets. With a payload of 518 tonnes, it is among the most powerful transporters in its class. In addition, two platform-type KAMAG Slag Pot Carriers (SPC), each with a payload capacity of 100 tonnes, will handle efficient slag removal.

The project was executed in cooperation with TII KAMAG’s long-standing South Korean partner Kilwoo, ensuring reliable service and support during operations.
“The cooperation with POSCO on this pioneering project underlines TII KAMAG’s role as a reliable partner for the global steel industry,” said Y.W. Yoon of Kilwoo. “Being involved at such an early stage allows us to help shape sustainable production processes and deliver long-term value.”
