Italy’s Salerno Container Terminal (SCT), part of the Gallozzi Group, has ordered a Konecranes Gottwald ESP.10 Mobile Harbor Crane as part of a €10 million modernization project. The crane, scheduled for delivery in Q4 2025, was booked in Q1 and will be powered by an external electricity supply to reduce emissions and support eco-efficiency goals.
Designed to handle super post-Panamax vessels carrying up to 15,000 TEUs and 22 container rows across, the crane features a 64-meter boom, a 125-tonne lifting capacity, and twin-lift spreader capabilities. By connecting to the local grid, the crane’s electric drive train enhances operational efficiency while reducing local emissions.
“The new crane will significantly reduce vessel turnaround times while improving our environmental performance,” said Agostino Gallozzi, Chairman of the Gallozzi Group. “We’re proud to lead regional efforts in port electrification.”
The crane will be equipped with Konecranes TRUCONNECT and Predictive Services for condition-based monitoring, aligning with Italy’s digital transformation goals under Transition Plan 5.0.
Konecranes Vice President Giuseppe Di Lisa emphasized the alignment between SCT’s green vision and Konecranes’ Ecolifting strategy, which promotes decarbonization and digitalization. “This contract reflects our commitment to helping terminals do more with less,” he said.
SCT has been using Konecranes Gottwald cranes since 1990. This latest acquisition supports its ambition to become the most eco-efficient terminal in the Mediterranean.
