Concordia Damen has announced its role in constructing two vessels, Rotra Futura and Rotra Horizon, designed for transporting large offshore wind turbine components. Built in collaboration with partners such as deugro Danmark, Siemens Gamesa, DEKC Maritime, and Amasus Shipping, the vessels are being constructed at Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard in China and are slated for delivery to Amasus Shipping in 2025.
The development of Rotra Futura and Rotra Horizon reflects the latest innovations in offshore wind logistics, backed by close industry collaboration. By combining insights from Concordia Damen, deugro Danmark, Siemens Gamesa, and other industry leaders, these vessels have been meticulously designed to handle the increasing demands of the wind energy sector. Under a charter agreement between Siemens Gamesa, deugro Danmark, and Amasus Shipping, the new Rotra concept will be integral to the logistics network supporting the growth of offshore wind power.
Building on the success of the Rotra Mare and Rotra Vente vessels, which have served the industry since 2016, the new vessels are specially equipped for the latest, larger turbine components. Key features include a Roll-On/Roll-Off (RO/RO) system and an innovative portal system that allows for safe, efficient transport of larger and heavier loads. With three Liebherr cranes and a three-tier blade stowage system, the vessels offer exceptional flexibility for loading configurations. Measuring 167.6 meters in length and 26 meters in width, the vessels are optimized for cargo capacity and visibility.
In line with Concordia Damen’s commitment to sustainable design, Rotra Futura and Rotra Horizon incorporate energy-saving features, including a hydro-optimized hull, low-resistance coating, and advanced Wärtsilä engines that reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. With a hybrid propulsion system that meets IMO Tier 3 standards and a waste heat recovery system, these vessels align with the offshore wind sector’s sustainability goals.
