Konecranes is set to bolster its Port Solutions division by acquiring Peinemann Port Services BV and Peinemann Container Handling BV, both based in Rotterdam, at the heart of Europe’s largest port. The acquisition, which is pending approval from the Dutch competition authority, is anticipated to be finalized in Q4 2024. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Peinemann is a prominent provider of port services in the Netherlands, boasting a diverse customer base and established maintenance relationships with many of Konecranes’ key clients. In 2023, the businesses being acquired reported a turnover exceeding €40 million, and around 100 employees are expected to join Konecranes following the completion of the transaction.

Since 2009, Peinemann Container Handling BV has served as a distributor for Konecranes Lift Trucks in the Netherlands and has been engaged in the sales, rental, and service of lift trucks in the Rotterdam region since 1954. The acquisition will not alter Konecranes’ existing Lift Trucks distribution model outside the Netherlands.

Paolo Dazi, Senior Vice President of Port Services at Konecranes, remarked, “The acquisition of Peinemann’s Port Services and Container Handling businesses will expand our footprint and increase our service presence in Europe’s largest port, where we already have strong customer relationships and a significant fleet of both automated and manual equipment.”

Andreas Falk, Senior Vice President of Lift Trucks at Konecranes, added, “This agreement presents an opportunity to further enhance our services and equipment offerings in the Netherlands. The new sales channels brought by the Peinemann businesses will also accelerate our plans to transition to battery-powered electric vehicles in this critical market.”
