Liebherr Delivers Third STS Crane to PSA Penn Terminals in Philadelphia

Liebherr has officially handed over a third Ship-to-Shore (STS) crane to PSA Penn Terminals in Philadelphia, further solidifying its long-standing partnership with US ports. This latest delivery expands the terminal’s Liebherr fleet, complementing the two cranes commissioned in 2018 and enhancing operational capacity and efficiency at the facility.

The new STS crane features an impressive 157 ft outreach and a safe working load of 66 tonnes, designed to significantly improve container handling operations. Liebherr’s commitment to delivering high-quality, customizable solutions is evident in the crane’s design, tailored to meet the specific needs of the terminal.

With over 130 Liebherr maritime cranes already playing a crucial role in North America, the company continues to be a trusted partner for US ports. Liebherr has been supplying innovative container handling equipment for over four decades, manufacturing its cranes in Ireland and providing comprehensive local support to ensure smooth port operations.

Winston Ziegler, Head of Sales, Maritime Cranes, Liebherr USA, emphasized the importance of these cranes in meeting performance demands, stating, “At a time when performance pressure is constant, Liebherr STS cranes offer industry-leading availability during vessel operations.”

Declan O’Sullivan, General Manager Sales at Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd., noted the company’s long history in the US, having delivered its first container crane in 1978.
