Manitowoc has unveiled its latest innovation—the Potain MCR 305 luffing jib tower crane. Developed through a collaborative effort between French and Chinese engineers, this crane incorporates valuable customer feedback gathered through Manitowoc’s extensive Voice of the Customer process, resulting in a design that surpasses its predecessors in several aspects.
Optimized Design for Enhanced Efficiency:
One of the standout features of the MCR 305 is its meticulously optimized design, which significantly reduces the number of anchorage points required during construction. This streamlined approach translates to more efficient assembly, reduced expenses for contractors, and valuable time savings on the demanding schedules of high-rise projects.
For instance, when compared to the existing MCR 295 A with a 60m jib, which necessitates 11 anchor points to reach a height of 192.6m, the new MCR 305 requires just six anchor points to reach 194.3m. This innovation showcases Manitowoc’s commitment to advancing construction technology and addressing the specific needs of its customers.
Space Optimization and Increased Productivity:
Contractors will appreciate the MCR 305’s reduced out-of-service radius, a crucial factor in constrained jobsites. With a 60m jib, the MCR 305 boasts an out-of-service radius of only 12.5m, compared to the 22m of the MCR 295 A in the same configuration. This reduction allows for better space optimization, enabling contractors to deploy more cranes on tight sites and offering a plethora of lifting options. This flexibility can potentially transform projects initially designed for a single crane into ones that accommodate two, presenting substantial productivity advantages.
Key Specifications and Variants:
The MCR 305 comes in two versions—the MCR 305 H20 with a 20t capacity and the MCR 305 H25 with a 25t capacity. Both versions feature a 60m jib length, with maximum tip loads of 3.1t for the H20 and 3t for the H25. Multiple winch options, including High-Performance Lifting (HPL) with up to 1,200m of wire rope, cater to diverse customer preferences.
Manufactured at the Manitowoc factory in Zhangjiagang, China, the MCR 305 is set to be distributed across Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, reflecting Manitowoc’s global reach and commitment to providing innovative solutions to construction challenges.
Leong Kwong-Joon, Regional Product Manager for Potain tower cranes at Manitowoc, expressed excitement about the crane’s increased load charts, positioning the MCR 305 as an attractive choice for high-rise construction. The strength gains across the entire jib length, faster climbing capabilities, and improved productivity, coupled with a substantially reduced out-of-service radius, mark the MCR 305 as a transformative addition to the construction industry.
