Noatum Ports is moving closer to the opening of its new Safaga Terminal in Egypt, following the arrival of key crane equipment that signals the start of operational readiness.

Noatum Ports, the ports operating arm of AD Ports Group, has confirmed the delivery of three ship-to-shore (STS) and six rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes to its multipurpose terminal in Safaga, Egypt. The equipment, manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd, was transported from China and marks a key step ahead of the terminal’s expected opening later this year.

Located on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, the Safaga Terminal will be the first internationally operated facility in Upper Egypt. Designed as a multipurpose hub, it will handle containers, general cargo, dry and liquid bulk, and Ro-Ro shipments, strengthening trade links between Egypt, the Middle East, Africa, and global markets.

The arrival of the STS and RTG cranes marks a key operational milestone… The terminal will serve as a key Red Sea gateway, supporting global trade flows and contributing to Egypt’s economic growth,” said Mohammed Al Tamimi, CEO of Noatum Ports.

The terminal will cover around 810,000 sqm and feature a 1,000-metre quay, with capacity for up to 450,000 TEUs, alongside significant volumes of bulk and Ro-Ro cargo. Supporting infrastructure includes warehouses, workshops, administrative buildings, and integrated logistics systems.

AD Ports Group has invested AED 193 million in the crane procurement, part of a wider USD 200 million commitment to the project. The development follows a 30-year concession agreement signed in 2023 with Egypt’s Red Sea Ports Authority and is partially financed by a USD 115 million facility led by the International Finance Corporation.

Operations at Safaga Terminal are expected to begin in the second half of 2026, reinforcing Egypt’s position in regional and global supply chains.
