APM Terminals Maasvlakte II, together with Embotech and Terberg Special Vehicles, has added five new electric automated terminal tractors (ATTs) at the Port of Rotterdam.
The delivery marks the third batch of vehicles, bringing the total fleet to ten units, with plans to scale up to 30—one of the largest automated terminal tractor fleets in Europe. The new tractors have completed Factory Acceptance Testing and will now undergo Site Acceptance Testing at the terminal.
The rollout builds on earlier trials, with the first five ATTs successfully validated in 2025 under operational conditions, including mixed-traffic driving, narrow-lane manoeuvring, and reverse parking. The system has also received certification from TÜV SÜD and CE marking, confirming compliance with European safety standards.

“The testing at APM Terminals Maasvlakte II confirmed that the system performs reliably in daily terminal operations,” said Dr. Giorgio Corbellini, Chief Operating Officer at Embotech.
Built on Terberg platforms and equipped with Embotech’s Level-4 autonomous driving technology, the tractors are designed for safe navigation in complex terminal environments under all weather conditions.
“For us, the first step is to ensure that the full solution operates reliably within daily terminal operations,” added Marieke Frensch, Chief Technology Officer at APM Terminals Maasvlakte II. “The structured testing and certification work provides the foundation to integrate the fleet step by step as the terminal expands.”
Once fully deployed, the fleet will transport containers between rail and yard operations, supporting ongoing capacity expansion at the Rotterdam terminal.
