Steerprop and Aboa Mare have signed a cooperation agreement to deliver simulator-based training for vessels equipped with Steerprop propulsion systems.
Under the agreement, Steerprop will offer its customers tailored training programmes delivered by Aboa Mare, focusing on vessel handling, manoeuvring, and operational decision-making. The courses will be developed jointly and adapted to each customer’s vessel type and operational profile.
Based in Turku, Finland, Aboa Mare is a globally recognised maritime training and simulation centre, providing advanced full-mission simulators for shiphandling, engine room operations, and integrated bridge systems.
The partnership aims to strengthen Steerprop’s customer offering by combining propulsion technology with practical training. For shipowners and operators, the initiative is expected to enhance operational safety, efficiency, and overall vessel performance by ensuring crews are fully familiar with system behaviour in real-world conditions.
Simulator-based training is particularly valuable for vessels operating in demanding environments, such as ice conditions, where precise manoeuvring and system reliability are critical.
Steerprop noted that the collaboration supports long-term operational performance and lifecycle value, while Aboa Mare highlighted the role of realistic simulation in helping crews build competence and confidence before facing challenging situations at sea.
