Terminal Puerto Arica S.A. is strengthening its position as a key gateway for northern Chile with an investment in two Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald ESP.10 Mobile Harbor Cranes. The order, booked in the first quarter of 2026, will see the new units operational by January 2027.
The Port of Arica plays a strategic role in regional trade, handling cargo flows not only for Chile but also for neighboring Peru and Bolivia. A long-standing Konecranes customer, the terminal has gradually expanded its fleet over the past two decades, moving from Generation 4 to Generation 5 equipment as part of a continuous modernization strategy.
The addition of the new ESP.10 cranes marks a significant step forward in capacity. With an outreach of up to 64 meters, the cranes will enable the handling of vessels up to 22 container rows wide, while a lifting capacity of 125 tonnes supports both heavy and bulk cargo operations.
The cranes will feature extended towers for larger vessels and flexible lifting systems, allowing rapid switching between container spreaders and bulk handling grabs. Dual diesel generator sets will provide operational redundancy and efficiency.
According to TPA CEO Camilo Jobet, the investment aligns with the terminal’s long-term strategy to accommodate larger vessels while maintaining operational versatility. Konecranes highlighted the project as a continuation of a more than 20-year partnership focused on increasing handling performance and supporting regional trade growth.
