Stillstrom expands UK offshore charging push

Rate this post

Stillstrom, part of A.P. Moller – Maersk, has formally established a UK entity in Aberdeen to support the commercial rollout of its offshore vessel charging solutions.

The move marks a key step toward the electrification of maritime operations in offshore wind farms, following seven years of development, testing and collaboration with North Sea shipowners, suppliers and regulators. The company’s charging system is now ready for operational deployment, aiming to reduce reliance on fossil fuels in one of the world’s most active offshore wind markets.

Since 2019, Stillstrom has focused on developing all-electric charging solutions for service operations vessels (SOVs), which are among the most energy-intensive assets in offshore wind. Close collaboration with developers and vessel owners in Aberdeen has led to ongoing discussions with major wind farm operators, alongside partnership agreements with leading SOV owner-operators.

To lead its UK expansion, Stillstrom has appointed Graeme Wood as Managing Director. With more than 40 years of experience in maritime and engineering, he has held senior roles at companies including Rever Offshore, Bibby Subsea, Vroon Offshore Services and Technip. He has also been involved in the development of Stillstrom’s technology over the past four years.

The new UK base will enable closer collaboration with industry stakeholders and support the large-scale adoption of offshore charging solutions as the sector accelerates its decarbonisation efforts.
