Six tower cranes from Wolffkran are deployed at the construction site of a new hospital complex in northern Memmingen. The project, being developed on a 7.7 hectare site, will include six floors, 480 beds and a gross floor area of more than 75,000 square metres.

Construction of the building shell began in February 2025, with the cranes supplied in the signature green colour of the main contractor, Glass GmbH. One WOLFF 6531.12 Cross crane was initially used during site preparation before being dismantled in autumn 2025. The remaining five cranes will remain on site for an average of 16 months and are expected to move around 60,000 cubic metres of concrete and 10,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel.

With tip load capacities of up to 3.3 tonnes and maximum lifting capacities of up to 16.5 tonnes, the cranes are designed to meet the demanding requirements of the project. They are operating up to 12 hours a day to keep pace with the construction schedule.

Precise planning was also essential due to the structural constraints of the site. Wolffkran supported the project during the early planning phase, helping define the optimal crane locations. Some cranes were positioned in areas that will later serve as light wells, while underground rainwater infiltration systems and a wastewater pumping station beneath one crane location required specially designed foundations.

To address these challenges, the cranes were installed on cross frames with special precast concrete counterweights produced by Glass in its own concrete plant. These counterweights can be removed individually during dismantling, ensuring that the underground infiltration systems remain fully functional.

Glass has worked with Wolffkran for 14 years and now operates a fleet of 44 WOLFF cranes across several major construction projects in Germany.
