DP World has added a new container vessel to its fleet through its Marine Services unit, Shipping Solutions, strengthening trade links between India and the Middle East.

The company has acquired the DP World Chennai, a container ship with capacity of more than 5,000 TEU, and deployed it on its Red Sea Gulf India service. The vessel’s maiden call at Jebel Ali increases Shipping Solutions’ owned capacity to more than 6 million TEU and is expected to improve schedule reliability across key regional trade lanes.

According to DP World, the move aims to enhance consistency and flexibility along the India Middle East corridor, helping customers benefit from more predictable shipping connections and improved supply chain reliability.

The acquisition forms part of a broader strategy to build a more diversified network by combining proprietary assets with port and marine service integration. DP World said continued growth in regional trade volumes is driving investment in service stability and operational predictability.

Shipping Solutions recently climbed to 15th place in Alphaliner’s global Top 50 carriers ranking, reflecting the expansion of its network and partnerships.

Alongside fleet growth, DP World is expanding its long term commitment to India’s trade infrastructure, with plans to invest around 5 billion dollars in the coming years. The company has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Sagarmala Finance Corporation, a government enterprise under India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, to support development of sustainable coastal and short sea shipping services.
