British International Freight Association has met with UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves to highlight key challenges facing the freight forwarding and logistics sector and to promote industry priorities.
The meeting brought together BIFA policy and compliance director Pawel Jarza and Rachel Taylor MP to discuss issues affecting the competitiveness and resilience of UK logistics businesses. Jarza outlined several pressing concerns on behalf of BIFA members, including workforce shortages and the need to attract and retain skilled talent to support trade growth.
Access to finance was also raised as a major challenge, particularly for small and medium sized freight forwarders navigating an uncertain economic environment. BIFA stressed that improved access to funding is essential to support investment and maintain supply chain resilience.
Border efficiency formed another central topic. The association called for continued improvements to border processes to ensure smoother trade flows and reduce disruption for businesses and consumers. It also highlighted the need for clearer guidance on the transition to Net Zero, urging the government to provide practical frameworks to help companies plan sustainable investments with confidence.
According to BIFA, the sector’s concerns were well received, with the Chancellor acknowledging the vital role freight forwarding and logistics play in supporting UK economic growth and international trade.
Jarza said the meeting provided an important opportunity to discuss issues that directly impact members, adding that addressing skills, finance, border operations and sustainability would help ensure the sector remains globally competitive.
BIFA said it will continue engaging with government stakeholders to help shape policies that support a more efficient, resilient and sustainable logistics industry.
