BigLift Shipping has placed an order for a new heavy lift vessel as part of its long term fleet expansion strategy, with delivery scheduled for June 2028.

The vessel will be built by Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore in China and will be a full sister ship to the company’s flagship Happy Star. The order covers one vessel with an option for a second unit, reflecting BigLift’s confidence in continued growth across the global heavy lift and project cargo market.

As a next generation design, the vessel will incorporate enhancements aligned with evolving regulatory requirements and technological developments. BigLift said the newbuild will support its ability to handle increasingly complex and large scale heavy lift operations while strengthening redundancy across its fleet.

The ship will feature tandem lifting capabilities of up to 2,200 tonnes and a full width weather deck combined with an adjustable tweendeck to maximise cargo flexibility. Two 1,100 tonne heavy lift mast cranes supplied by Huisman will provide extended lifting height and outreach. The vessel will also be built to Finnish Swedish 1A Ice Class standards, enabling operations in harsh and ice affected environments.

Managing director Johan Boer said the newbuild marks a significant step in reinforcing the company’s engineered transport capabilities and preparing for the next generation of heavy lift projects worldwide.

With the new addition, BigLift aims to further consolidate its position in the specialised transport segment while supporting customer demand for larger and more technically demanding cargo moves across global trade routes.
