The MV BBC BREMEN, the eighth vessel in a series of 15 LakerMax-type ships, was officially christened yesterday at the Port of Bremen. The ceremony took place at BLG’s terminal in Bremen’s Neustädter Hafen, where the vessel was loading industrial components.
Anitta Schumann, Chartering Manager at BBC Chartering’s Bremen office since 2011, served as godmother. In keeping with maritime tradition, she wished the vessel “fair winds and following seas” before a champagne bottle was broken against the hull. Around 100 guests attended, including Kai Stührenberg, State Councillor at Bremen’s Senator for Economic Affairs, Ports and Transformation; Joachim Bothe, Deputy Port Captain of Bremen; and Matthias Magnor, CEO of BLG Logistics, alongside clients, partners, and employees of BBC Chartering and Briese Schiffahrt. The vessel and crew were subsequently blessed by Magnus Deppe of the Bremen Seamen’s Mission.
Delivered in September 2025 to Briese Schiffahrt as owner and BBC Chartering as operator, the BBC BREMEN has already completed several successful voyages. Prior to calling Bremen, she visited Esbjerg, Denmark, and Le Trait, France. Following calls in Bremen and Hamburg, the vessel will proceed to the United States, with Galveston and Houston as her next destinations.
The BBC BREMEN is a multipurpose triple-deck vessel equipped with two Liebherr LS250 cranes offering a combined lifting capacity of up to 500 tonnes. Featuring 2,830 square metres of open deck space and fuel-efficient design, the vessel reduces greenhouse gas emissions per cargo unit by up to 30%.
