Seaboard Marine has strengthened its terminal infrastructure with an order for three Liebherr LHM 550 mobile harbour cranes, reinforcing its focus on scalable, energy-efficient operations at two major U.S. trade gateways. The high-rise configured cranes will be deployed at the company’s private terminals at PortMiami and the Port of Houston, supporting growing container volumes and multipurpose cargo activity.
Designed with electric drive systems, the cranes are prepared for future shore power integration, while hydrostatic drive technology ensures smooth performance under variable loads. With an outreach of up to 54 metres and a lifting capacity of 104 metric tonnes, the LHM 550 is suited to handling New-Panamax vessels while maintaining fast turnaround times.

At PortMiami, which handled more than 1.1 million TEUs in 2024, the new cranes will enhance berth productivity and support increasing volumes of refrigerated and breakbulk cargo, aligning with Seaboard Marine’s LNG-powered fleet expansion. Meanwhile, at the Port of Houston, where container throughput exceeded 4.1 million TEUs last year, the additional crane capacity will improve operational flexibility and help maintain competitive transit times.
The cranes feature customer-specific adaptations, including tower extensions, tailored support pads, and customised paintwork. Liebherr’s regional service network, supported by Liebherr USA, will provide remote assistance and on-site support from dedicated teams in Miami and Houston under a full-service agreement. Operator training and digital tools such as the LiDAT smartApp will further support performance monitoring and safety.
