DP World Constanța has strengthened its position as a key Black Sea logistics hub with the delivery of two fully electric LHM 600 mobile harbour cranes from Liebherr. The cranes arrived at the port aboard MV Anna in October, marking an important milestone in the terminal’s expansion into heavy breakbulk and project cargo handling.

Configured for tandem operations, the two LHM 600 cranes can jointly lift loads of up to 400 tonnes, enabling the safe and efficient handling of oversized and complex cargo. Each crane operates primarily on an advanced electric drive system designed to reduce emissions and energy consumption, while a diesel engine remains available as a backup to ensure operational continuity.

Safety and precision are central to the installation. Liebherr’s Sycratronic assistance system supports synchronised tandem lifting, complemented by integrated 360° camera systems that enhance operator visibility and situational awareness. In addition, specially engineered double supporting pads were developed to match the structural requirements of Constanța’s berths, ensuring maximum stability during high-capacity lifts.

The new cranes introduce true multi-purpose capability, allowing seamless transitions between container handling, bulk operations and heavy-lift project cargo without compromising efficiency. This flexibility supports DP World Constanța’s strategy to diversify cargo streams while maintaining high productivity and safety standards.

As the largest container terminal on the Black Sea and a vital multimodal gateway for Eastern Europe, DP World Constanța continues to invest in modern, sustainable infrastructure. The collaboration with Liebherr reinforces the terminal’s long-term growth ambitions and its role in shaping the future of regional and European logistics.
