Principle Power has appointed João Amaral as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Julian Arrilaga Costa, who will continue in an advisory capacity until the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition.
Amaral joins the company from Voltalia, where he served as Group Chief Technology Officer and oversaw global technology strategy across wind, solar, hydro, storage, and biomass. With more than two decades of leadership in the renewable energy sector, he has managed teams and complex infrastructure projects worldwide. His appointment marks a strategic step for Principle Power as floating offshore wind accelerates into commercial scale.
“João brings a proven track record in growth, technology, and industrialization that aligns with Principle Power’s ambition to deliver floating offshore wind for the energy transition,” said Bautista Rodríguez, Chairman of Principle Power and COO of Ocean Winds. He also thanked Arrilaga Costa for advancing the company’s progress and ongoing support during the transition.
Amaral highlighted Principle Power’s strong market position, reinforced by experience gained from its WindFloat platform deployed across 105 MW of operational projects, including WindFloat Atlantic, Kincardine, and EFGL. He emphasized plans to expand industrial partnerships, enhance technology competitiveness, and continue reducing the levelized cost of energy as the company moves toward deploying the first generation of 15+ MW floating turbines.
“Principle Power is entering a new phase of commercial growth from a position of strength,” Amaral said. “We will continue to lead as floating wind scales globally.”
