DP World Antwerp is nearing completion of a major €230 million expansion plan that will boost capacity by 30 percent by 2026, further strengthening the Port of Antwerp’s position as one of Europe’s leading integrated logistics hubs. The announcement comes as DP World celebrates 20 years of operations at Antwerp Gateway, a terminal that has become a model for efficiency, sustainability and innovation in European trade.

Since opening in 2005, Antwerp Gateway has grown from handling 70,000 TEUs to more than 2.4 million TEUs this year. What began as a pioneering approach to terminal automation has evolved into a fully digitalised operation featuring advanced intermodal connections and on-site renewable energy.

The latest investment covers additional yard space, terminal infrastructure and upgraded digital systems to improve container handling, reduce emissions and strengthen barge and rail links. The final four of 27 automated stacking crane modules will be operational in 2026, enabling high-density container storage. DP World will also introduce the latest version of its terminal operating system, Zodiac, in 2028 to enhance visibility and planning.

Rashid Abdulla, CEO and Managing Director of DP World Europe, emphasized the long-term commitment to the region: “For two decades, Antwerp Gateway has embodied our mission to make trade flow. We are immensely proud of how our people, partners and customers have worked together to build a terminal that stands for reliability, sustainability and innovation. This investment reinforces our long-term commitment to Europe, our customers and the communities we serve.”

With more than 750 employees, Antwerp Gateway features a Truck Appointment System, Trucker App and biometric access controls to ensure seamless and safe terminal operations. Sustainability remains a central focus, supported by a biogas plant and wind turbine on site.

Edi Cioran, CEO of DP World Antwerp Gateway, highlighted the terminal’s continued ambition:
“This is one of the most sustainable terminals in Europe and the Port of Antwerp has consistently led the way in innovation. Our vision is to keep pushing boundaries from sustainability to digital innovation so that Antwerp Gateway remains a leader for the next 20 years and beyond.”

DP World’s presence in Antwerp continues to grow, with new warehousing, a chemical logistics hub and a freight forwarding office launched in 2023, expanding its end-to-end logistics services across Europe. The terminal also remains active in the community, supporting environmental conservation and youth development initiatives across the region.
