ScottishPower Awards £1 Billion Siemens Turbine Contract for East Anglia TWO Windfarm

ScottishPower has finalised a turbine supply agreement worth more than £1 billion with Siemens Gamesa for its £4 billion East Anglia TWO offshore windfarm, delivering a major boost to UK manufacturing and the country’s clean energy ambitions. The contract will see 64 SG 14-236 DD offshore wind turbines supplied for the project, with all blades manufactured at Siemens Gamesa’s Hull factory, which now supports around 1,300 local jobs.

Located 33 kilometres off the Suffolk coast, East Anglia TWO will have the capacity to generate up to 960 MW of renewable electricity—enough to power nearly one million homes. The turbine blades, each 115 metres long, will be produced in Hull following significant recruitment at the facility over the past year.

The announcement comes shortly after ScottishPower doubled its planned UK investment to £24 billion between 2024 and 2028. Prime Minister Keir Starmer hailed the deal as a key step toward making Britain a “clean energy superpower,” emphasising the benefits for national security, jobs and long-term energy affordability.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said the agreement demonstrates strong confidence in the UK’s renewables sector, calling offshore wind the “backbone” of Britain’s clean power mission. ScottishPower CEO Keith Anderson added that accelerating projects like East Anglia TWO will strengthen the domestic supply chain and support the UK’s green energy targets.

Siemens Gamesa, part of Siemens Energy, employs more than 6,000 people across the UK. Darren Davidson, Vice President for the UK and Ireland, noted that the Hull blade factory is helping drive economic growth while supporting the country’s net-zero transition.

East Anglia TWO, which secured a contract in the UK Government’s 2024 renewables auction, forms part of ScottishPower’s wider East Anglia offshore wind portfolio set to power more than three million homes.
