A major construction milestone has been reached at Stranoch wind farm in Dumfries and Galloway, as deliveries of key turbine components began arriving at the EDF power solutions UK site this week. The first batches include blades and tower sections supplied by Vestas.
The components are being transported from the Port of Cairnryan to the wind farm under Police Scotland escort, managed by specialist contractor Collett. Deliveries will take place in scheduled convoys over the coming weeks and months.
To reduce disruption on local roads, convoys are planned twice daily on weekdays. Police Scotland and the project’s transport team will work to maintain traffic flow and create opportunities for vehicles to pass where possible. EDF power solutions UK has been regularly engaging with residents likely to be affected. Deliveries will continue until early December, with schedules subject to change depending on weather and police guidance.
Stranoch wind farm is a 20-turbine, 102MW project located near New Luce. Construction began in May 2024 and is expected to run until early 2027.
As part of its community commitments, EDF power solutions UK launched a £20,000 annual sponsorship fund earlier this year, with several local groups already benefitting. Once the wind farm becomes operational, this initiative will be replaced by a community benefit fund worth around £510,000 per year.
Yusuf Patel, Chief Technical Officer at EDF power solutions UK, said: “This is a fantastic milestone in the construction of Stranoch wind farm, and we are pleased to be working closely with Vestas and Police Scotland in safely delivering the components. We thank residents and road users for their patience as we progress this critical stage.”
