DEME, through its Taiwanese joint venture CDWE, has been awarded a substantial contract for the Formosa 4 offshore wind project, located 20 kilometers off Miaoli County. The scope includes the transport and installation of 35 foundations, an offshore substation, and scour protection works.
The 495 MW project, developed by Synera Renewable Energy, will play a key role in Taiwan’s clean energy transition. Installation will utilize DEME’s advanced fleet, including Green Jade—the first floating offshore installation vessel built and operated in Taiwan. A rock placement vessel will also be deployed for scour protection.
Since co-founding CDWE in 2019, DEME has delivered key contributions to projects such as Zhong Neng, Changfang Xidao, Hai Long, and the Greater Changhua offshore wind farm. The joint venture has established itself as Taiwan’s first offshore wind contractor, combining global expertise with local talent development.
Frank Jonckheere, General Manager Asia-Pacific – Offshore Energy, said: “The Formosa 4 contract builds on DEME’s strong track record in Taiwan. Through CDWE, we bring decades of offshore wind experience while training local marine engineers and seafarers to drive the industry’s growth.”
Subject to final investment approval, foundation installation is scheduled to start in the first half of 2027.
