United Africa Logistics (UAL) has launched the UAL Caribbean Shuttle, a fixed 9-day loop service connecting Point Lisas in Trinidad & Tobago, Georgetown in Guyana, and Paramaribo in Suriname. The new service addresses growing demand for reliable multipurpose shipping options across the Southern Caribbean.
The shuttle is operated by the recently delivered mv UAL Transporter, a landing craft vessel purpose-built for the region. With a shallow five-meter draft at maximum load and a capacity of 387 TEU, the ship can call not only at major terminals but also river ports in Georgetown and Paramaribo, where draft restrictions limit larger vessels.
UAL says the service is designed to handle a diverse cargo mix, from full-container-load imports such as food, machinery and consumer goods, to RoRo shipments of vehicles, trucks, and construction equipment, as well as breakbulk cargo including steel, pipes, fertilizers, and project materials.
“Traders and forwarders in these markets have long asked for a fixed, reliable short-sea option,” said Martijn Hordijk, Project Manager at UAL. “With a scheduled 9-day rotation and the ability to load all cargo types, the UAL Caribbean Shuttle provides the consistency exporters and importers need.”
UAL Trinidad will manage the service locally with support from the company’s head office in the Netherlands. By linking the complementary economies of Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, and Suriname, UAL aims to enhance regional connectivity and support long-term trade growth.
