A new era for automotive logistics in North Africa has begun with the official launch of Egypt’s first finished-vehicle terminal, the Suez Canal Automotive Terminal (SCAT), on July 1, 2025. Located at the northern entrance of the Suez Canal, the terminal is a joint venture between Africa Global Logistics (AGL), Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), and Toyota Tsusho Corporation.

SCAT is designed to handle the import, export, and transshipment of vehicles, positioning Egypt as a regional hub for automotive logistics. Initially spanning 21.2 hectares with storage for 2,550 vehicles and the ability to berth two large car carriers simultaneously, the terminal has future plans to scale up capacity to 10,000 vehicles.

The terminal is equipped with advanced infrastructure to support seamless operations and is expected to process up to 50,000 vehicles annually. The consortium will operate SCAT for 30 years, delivering long-term impact on Egypt’s logistics landscape.

This is a major opportunity for the continent, particularly for Egypt and the sub-region,” said Olivier De Noray, CEO of Ports & Terminals at AGL. “SCAT will help meet growing automotive demand while supporting local economic development.”

AGL contributes its extensive African logistics expertise, while NYK brings global maritime know-how and Toyota Tsusho offers deep knowledge of the automotive industry and African markets. Together, the partners aim to drive sustainable growth and bolster Egypt’s role in global trade.
