Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has announced a strategic investment of 2,500 MSEK to strengthen its global production of crawler excavators across three key sites: South Korea, Sweden, and North America.

This move aims to meet rising global demand, reduce supply chain risks, and enhance sustainability through more localized production. The largest share of the investment will go to Volvo CE’s Changwon facility in South Korea, which plays a central role in manufacturing, product development, and procurement. Enhancements at Changwon will boost capacity and secure global volumes, particularly for the Asian market.

In Europe, Sweden has been selected for future crawler excavator production, with specific decisions on location and timing expected in 2025. In North America, Volvo CE will add a new excavator assembly line at its existing Shippensburg facility in the U.S., improving delivery times and regional responsiveness.

This investment underscores our commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability,” said Melker Jernberg, Head of Volvo CE. “Expanding production closer to our customers enables us to better meet demand and reduce our environmental footprint.”
