Drydocks World has announced its role as a founding member of the newly launched Global Green Shipyard Alliance (GGSA), a coalition of leading shipyards committed to accelerating sustainability across the maritime sector.
Launched with the goal of fast-tracking clean technology adoption and setting unified ESG standards, the GGSA brings together five major shipyard groups spanning Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Alongside Drydocks World (UAE), founding members include Astilleros Shipyard Group (Spain), BREDO Dry Docks GmbH (Germany), and IMC Shipyard Services Group (Singapore, China, Thailand).
The alliance emerges at a critical time as the maritime industry faces mounting pressure to decarbonise in line with global climate goals. The GGSA will serve as a platform for joint development, knowledge exchange, and innovation, focusing on practical solutions such as hybrid propulsion, energy-efficient retrofits, digital optimisation, and emissions compliance.
Captain Rado Antolovic, PhD, CEO of Drydocks World, said: “The formation of the GGSA reflects our shared responsibility to accelerate the industry’s decarbonisation journey. As a founding member, we’re proud to lead efforts in advancing sustainable and efficient practices globally.”
Imran Inamdar, COO of Drydocks World, added: “This alliance allows us to work with global peers to drive measurable improvements in shipbuilding and retrofitting, bringing real-world solutions to market faster.”
The GGSA is the third global initiative backed by DP World, following the Zero Emission Port Alliance (ZEPA) and the First Movers Coalition—both aimed at pushing industry-wide adoption of clean technologies. With the launch of GGSA, Drydocks World reinforces Dubai’s growing influence as a global centre for responsible and sustainable maritime services.
