Fratelli Fazio Group has ordered Italy’s first Konecranes Gottwald ESP.9 Generation 6 Mobile Harbor Crane, marking a milestone in the modernization of the Port of Augusta. The 200-tonne capacity crane – the most powerful in Konecranes’ mobile harbor crane lineup – will be delivered in Q3 2025.
Situated on Sicily’s east coast, the Port of Augusta plays a key role in the EU’s TEN-T transport network. Fratelli Fazio has long relied on earlier-generation Konecranes equipment, and the new crane will significantly boost their capacity for heavy general cargo, containers, and wind energy components.
The crane includes dual diesel generator sets for off-grid operation and is ready for electrification once infrastructure is available. It also features TRUCONNECT remote monitoring for real-time diagnostics and predictive maintenance, aligning with Italy’s latest sustainability and digitalization requirements — making it eligible for government incentives.
“This is a major addition to our fleet,” said Gabriele Fazio, Procurement Manager. “It strengthens our relationship with Konecranes and enhances our ability to manage complex cargo.”
Konecranes’ Gino Gherri added, “This deal reflects our strong partnership in Augusta and reinforces our presence across the Mediterranean.”
