Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure’s Gode Wind 3 Offshore Wind Farm is now producing enough renewable energy to power approximately 250,000 German households following the completion of construction and commissioning on 28 February 2025.
With an installed capacity of 253 MW, Gode Wind 3 is Ørsted’s fifth operational offshore wind farm in Germany. It will be followed by the 913 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3, expected to be fully operational in 2026. Ørsted now supplies renewable electricity to around 1.6 million German households and operates nearly 20% of the country’s total offshore wind capacity.
Nuveen Infrastructure, a major infrastructure investor with over USD 30 billion in assets under management, has a renewable energy portfolio exceeding 7.6 GW, capable of powering more than 4 million homes worldwide.
Patrick Harnett, COO at Ørsted, emphasized offshore wind’s role in Germany’s energy transition: “With Gode Wind 3, we now have five operational offshore wind farms in the German North Sea, delivering large-scale renewable energy.”
Jordi Francesch, Managing Director at Nuveen Infrastructure, added: “This milestone highlights our commitment to sustainable energy solutions and delivering value for society and investors.”
Gode Wind 3 consists of 23 Siemens Gamesa 11 MW turbines, each with a 200-meter rotor diameter, delivering 40% higher annual energy yield than previous models. Power is transmitted via TenneT’s grid in Lower Saxony, managed from Ørsted’s Norden-Norddeich hub.
A newly developed monopile installation method reduced underwater noise levels, showcasing Ørsted’s commitment to sustainable offshore wind practices. The project reflects strong European collaboration, with contributions from Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, and France.
