Two Konecranes SMV 4632 TC5 reach stackers equipped with Flow Drive have begun operations at Ultraport’s Puerto Angamos terminal, a vital port for Chile’s copper exports. The innovative Flow Drive system reduces fuel consumption by up to 25% without compromising performance, supporting Ultraport’s drive to lower emissions.
Ultraport, a Chilean port operator and a loyal Konecranes customer for over a decade, operates more than 30 reach stackers and several mobile harbor cranes throughout the country. Part of the Ultramar group, Ultraport continues to lead in material handling technology, now introducing Latin America’s first Flow Drive lift trucks.
“As a leading port operator, we have a responsibility to maintain sustainable operations. Puerto Angamos, critical to Chile’s economy, is the perfect location to begin our emissions reduction program,” says Nelson Ojeda, Manager of Ultraport Angamos.
The Flow Drive trucks utilize a hydromechanical variable transmission (HVT), reducing fuel use and carbon emissions while limiting power at low speeds to minimize wear. Additional features such as Hydraulic Long Life filters for extended oil change intervals, automated central greasing, and enhanced camera systems further boost safety, performance, and environmental impact. TRUCONNECT Remote Monitoring and a Premium upgrade with tire pressure monitoring optimize efficiency and extend equipment lifespan.
Andres Ramirez, Sales Manager at Konecranes Lift Trucks, commended Ultraport for choosing technology that aligns with their sustainability goals. “Their trust in our expertise shows this is the best solution for their emissions initiative.”
This delivery is part of Ecolifting, Konecranes’ vision to reduce carbon footprints while improving environmental performance. By advancing eco-optimized diesel drives, hybrid technology, and fully electric solutions, Konecranes continues to help customers achieve more with less.
