Two 300-ton Link-Belt 348 Series 2 lattice crawler cranes played a pivotal role in the construction of a $170 million, 650,000-square-foot mixed-use development at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Davis Erecting Inc., based in Greenville, utilized these cranes for the installation of precast concrete panels on the 11-story structure, which includes student housing, commercial space, and parking facilities.

Equipped with 240 feet of luffing boom and 120 feet of luffing jib, the cranes demonstrated their reliability and capacity by tandem-lifting concrete panels weighing up to 50,000 pounds. The project highlighted the machines’ features, including self-assembling counterweight systems and a flexible boom top section that transitions between conventional and luffing configurations, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
