AMRC Cymru has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU) to collaborate on developing floating offshore wind (FLOW) projects in Wales and across the UK. This partnership aims to support Welsh supply chains and contribute to the UK’s transition to renewable energy by leveraging JMU’s expertise in offshore wind technology and AMRC Cymru’s research capabilities.
Welsh Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy, and Planning, Rebecca Evans, praised the agreement, highlighting Wales’ role in advancing sustainable energy. The partnership seeks to create a cost-competitive offshore wind supply chain and stimulate job growth in the Welsh economy, particularly in South Wales.
Drawing from its experience with Japan’s Fukushima wind projects, JMU will focus on semi-submersible floater technology for offshore wind and explore supply chain expansion in the UK. The collaboration, witnessed by Japan’s Minister of Economy in the UK, Kyoichiro Kawakami, builds on decades of economic ties between Japan and Wales and aligns with shared goals for carbon neutrality and sustainable development.
