DEME has been awarded a major contract to perform the transport and installation of inter-array cables and secondary steel for the OranjeWind offshore wind farm in the Netherlands. With a planned capacity of nearly 800 MW, OranjeWind is being developed by RWE and TotalEnergies, located 53 km off the Dutch coast in the North Sea.

Under this contract, DEME will transport and install approximately 114 km of inter-array cables, connecting all 53 wind turbine foundations to the offshore substation. DEME’s scope also includes comprehensive engineering, preparatory work, and installation support to deliver an end-to-end solution for RWE and TotalEnergies.

To ensure cable stability and proper burial depths, DEME will pre-sweep sand waves in targeted areas and stabilize the cables with rock where they cross existing assets and near the substation. The secondary steel installation involves transporting and installing boat landings, access platforms, and internal platforms at each monopile foundation.

“This contract demonstrates DEME’s capability to offer a full range of solutions for the offshore wind sector. With our specialized fleet and extensive cable installation experience, we’re well equipped to meet the demands of this dynamic seabed environment,” said Philip Scheers, General Manager Subsea Power Cables at DEME.We are also thrilled to collaborate with RWE and TotalEnergies, key players in the energy transition.

Scheduled to commence in the latter half of 2026, DEME will deploy an offshore and cable installation vessel, hopper dredger, and fallpipe vessel to support the project. This contract marks the fourth major cable project DEME has secured recently, including two contracts with Prysmian for TenneT’s IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 grid systems, and a collaboration with Hellenic Cables on the Princess Elisabeth Island project in the Belgian North Sea.
