At a port in Qatar, a complex lift of a wooden boat with uneven weight distribution was successfully executed using Modulift’s versatile spreader beams in a ‘1-over-2’ lifting configuration. Logistics firm Al Jaber Heavy Lift & Transport, renowned for their expertise in heavy lifting and transportation, managed the project with three different Modulift spreader beams: the MOD 600XB/600, MOD 250, and MOD 110. Measuring 40 meters in length and 10 meters high, the boat posed significant lifting challenges due to its irregular center of gravity.
For lifts like this, the ‘1-over-2’ configuration is a cost-effective solution when headroom is not an issue, allowing the crane to manage the boat’s weight imbalance smoothly. Modulift’s spreader beams, chosen for this project, are known for their modular and interchangeable design, which enables efficient reuse across various lifting scenarios. This flexibility in equipment saves companies both time and cost by eliminating the need for a new lifting system for every unique job.
Fasin Abubacker, Engineering Manager at Al Jaber Heavy Lift & Transport, highlighted the project’s complexity, saying, “The 150-tonne boat was handcrafted in Kerala, India, and brought to Qatar for further maintenance. Our team executed the lift safely and efficiently at the port. This wouldn’t have been possible without the MOD spreader beam system, which helped counter the uneven weight distribution and prevented potential structural damage.”
Modulift’s spreader beams, available in multiple configurations and load capacities (from 6 to 2000 tonnes), are designed for challenging lifts and adaptable for varied lifting needs. Sarah Spivey, Managing Director at Modulift, noted, “Our MOD spreader beams are specifically designed for demanding lifts like this one. We’re pleased to see another successful project at a global port that highlights the reliability of our products in overcoming complex lifting challenges.”
