XCMG recently showcased its advanced autonomous road construction fleet on the Nanjing-Shanghai Expressway, the busiest highway in China.
This fleet, hailed as the largest unmanned road construction fleet in the world, completed maintenance work on the Suzhou segment of the highway. The project utilized 10 tandem road rollers and two large-width pavers, all controlled by the BeiDou satellite navigation system, supported by technologies such as inertial navigation and obstacle detection.
This unmanned operation marked a significant step in intelligent highway maintenance, boasting higher efficiency and accuracy compared to traditional methods. XCMG also employed a unique asphalt thickness measurement technology, enabling real-time, damage-free measurement of asphalt layers to an accuracy of ±1mm. This ensures superior construction quality and precision. The unmanned fleet has been successfully deployed in other key infrastructure projects, including expressways in Beijing and Xiong’an
