Sarens is playing a key role in the installation of 83 new wind turbines on 17,500 acres near Lomond, Alberta, as part of the Buffalo Plains Wind Farm project. The project will add 494 megawatts (MW) of clean energy to Alberta’s grid, enough to power 100,000 homes, while cutting CO2 emissions by 795,000 tons annually.
Commissioned by Borea Construction, Sarens is handling the installation of Siemens Gamesa turbines using advanced lifting equipment like the LG-1750 and CC-3800 cranes. Despite challenges from weather and sandy soil, the project is on track to meet its commercial operation date.
The wind farm will create up to 300 construction jobs and 10-15 permanent positions, boosting the local economy through contracts and supply chain opportunities. This project supports Canada’s shift toward clean energy and contributes to its long-term energy stability. Sarens has a history of involvement in major Canadian wind projects, including Golden South and Blue Hill.
