Wolffkran Austria Deploys Heavy-Duty Crane for Reservoir Cleanup

In a demanding operation to remove sediment from the Roßwiese reservoir, construction company Kostmann GesmbH turned to Wolffkran Austria for one of its most powerful cranes. Tasked by VERBUND Hydro Power GmbH, the cleanup operation required a machine capable of handling heavy loads at high altitudes. Wolffkran answered with the WOLFF 8060.25 Cross, deployed in late June at an elevation of 1,200 meters.

The WOLFF 8060.25 Cross, with a maximum lifting capacity of 25 tons and a tip load of 14 tons at a 50-meter jib length, was the ideal choice. It transported troughs of excavated material weighing up to 18 tons, enabling the movement of nearly 20,000 cubic meters of sediment in under a month.

However, accessing the remote site posed significant challenges. The crane parts, transported from Vienna, had to be reloaded in the valley due to the steep, narrow forest road leading to the reservoir. The 6-kilometer road, featuring ten hairpin turns and a 600-meter altitude climb, was only accessible by trucks with short trailers after several days of dry weather. Despite these logistical obstacles, the crane was successfully transported and assembled in three days.

Kostmann GesmbH, represented by site manager David Pucher, praised the efficiency and professionalism of Wolffkran Austria. “The Wolffkran team not only made us a very interesting offer but also ensured that the transport, erection, and dismantling of the crane went off without a hitch, despite the challenging location,” said Pucher.

By mid-August, the WOLFF 8060.25 Cross was dismantled and returned to Vienna, marking the successful completion of the project and securing Wolffkran Austria a new customer in Kostmann GesmbH.
