India’s Adani Group, in collaboration with Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC), launched the country’s first automated terminal at Vizhinjam Port on July 11, 2024, with the arrival of the commercial vessel Maersk San Fernando. This project marks a significant milestone, showcasing ZPMC’s expertise in automated terminal solutions.

ZPMC provided key equipment for the terminal, including 8 quay cranes and 24 double cantilever rail cranes, along with advanced systems such as the Terminal Operating System (TOS), Terminal Access System (TAS), and Refrigerated Container Management System (RMS). These additions aim to enhance efficiency and safety at the port.

This terminal is India’s first large deep-water port and container transshipment hub, featuring quay cranes with a 53-meter lifting height and rail cranes with advanced automation capabilities. The first phase of the terminal is expected to handle 1 million TEUs annually, boosting global logistics and transportation.
