During the Intermodal event in São Paulo in 2022, Porto Chibatão secured a contract for the acquisition of four cranes, a deal that has now come to fruition with the delivery of the cranes in September. These additions augment the port’s existing fleet of 16 barge-slewing cranes, strengthening its operational capacity.
Founded in 1987, Porto Chibatão occupies a pivotal role in the logistical landscape, particularly within the Manaus industrial park, also known as the Manaus free trade zone. As the largest private port and Liebherr port equipment customer in Latin America, Porto Chibatão boasts an impressive array of 42 different cranes, including gantry cranes, fixed cargo cranes, and barge-slewing cranes.
The latest acquisitions, four LBS 800 cranes, are tailored for container handling, boasting a turnover of up to 35 containers per hour and a lifting capacity of 104 tonnes. These cranes are equipped with tower extensions for enhanced visibility during operations and feature modern interior cabins and digital architecture, paving the way for partial automation and future assistance systems.
Porto Chibatão’s expansion efforts align with the rising demands of global supply chains, as evidenced by its recent approval from Antaq, Brazil’s ports and waterways regulatory agency, for a significant expansion plan. This expansion, valued at 98 million reais (approximately €18.3 million), will extend the floating pier from 710 meters to 1,026 meters, enabling the port to efficiently process increasing cargo volumes in the Manaus industrial park.
Jhony Fidelis, General Executive Director of Grupo Chibatão, emphasizes the port’s commitment to innovation, productivity, and sustainability, noting the suitability of the Liebherr LBS 800 cranes in aligning with these goals.
