Van Oord, in collaboration with KENC, has initiated the fabrication process for a Flange Monopile Upending Tool (FMUT), following their contract agreement earlier this year. This tool, designed to overcome the challenges of varying sea conditions, promises exceptional versatility. Its innovative engineering allows for efficient upending and lifting of monopiles with diameters ranging from 7.5 to 8 meters, all while effectively managing challenging side loads.
The FMUT not only delivers optimal operational performance but also streamlines the construction process, reducing production costs. Despite its lightweight design, weighing less than 75 tonnes, it possesses the strength to lift an impressive Safe Working Load (SWL) of 1,600 tonnes, achieved through a combination of carefully chosen materials. The tool is slated for delivery in December 2023 and will commence operations at the beginning of the following year.
Vincent Vinkoert, Business Development Manager at KENC Engineering, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are on track to deliver the FMUT for its inaugural assignment and eagerly anticipate witnessing the tool in action. This project underscores our pride in the enduring partnership we share with Van Oord.”
