ABB and Microsoft have announced their collaboration to integrate Azure OpenAI Service into ABB Ability™ Genix Industrial Analytics and AI suite. The partnership aims to leverage generative AI technology to uncover valuable insights from operational data for industrial customers. By enhancing data collection and remediation, the integration will result in improved efficiency, productivity, asset reliability, operational safety, energy consumption reduction, and minimized environmental impact.

ABB plans to integrate generative AI, including large language models like GPT-4, through Azure OpenAI Service into the Genix platform and applications. The upcoming Genix Copilot application will offer intuitive functionality and facilitate the seamless flow of contextualized data across processes and operations. This will empower industry executives, specialists, and engineers with real-time actionable insights, leading to informed decision-making and increased productivity. The insights provided by Genix Copilot have the potential to extend asset lifespan by up to 20% and reduce unplanned downtime by up to 60%.

Moreover, the solution will assist customers in achieving sustainability and energy transition goals by providing advanced monitoring and optimization insights for industrial greenhouse gas emissions and energy usage.

Genix Copilot will also enable capturing operators’ knowledge and fostering collaborative decision-making while prioritizing data and knowledge security within the enterprise. ABB Ability™ Genix is a comprehensive industrial IoT, analytics, and AI platform that incorporates industry-specific domain knowledge to drive business outcomes and protect existing customer investments. Companies utilizing Genix have already experienced up to 40% cost savings in operations and maintenance, up to 30% improvement in production efficiency, and up to 25% enhancements in energy and emission optimization. The addition of generative AI capabilities to Genix is expected to further amplify these benefits.

Rajesh Ramachandran, Global Chief Digital Officer at ABB Process Automation, expressed the significance of this step in ABB and Microsoft’s strategic partnership, highlighting the potential of Genix Copilot in helping industrial customers achieve their sustainability and asset performance objectives. Ralph Haupter, President of EMEA at Microsoft, emphasized the importance of organizations modernizing and scaling their data platforms to drive digital transformation and ensure long-term success.

ABB Ability™ Genix automates the integration of operations (OT), information (IT), and engineering (ET) data across the enterprise, enabling advanced analytics and optimization through Industrial AI. It can be seamlessly deployed across cloud, hybrid, edge, or on-premises environments while leveraging Microsoft Azure for integrated cloud connectivity and services.
