Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH has introduced new lifting technologies for its LR series crawler cranes (130–400 tonnes) that significantly improve safety and efficiency—especially during challenging operations on floating platforms or when handling long, heavy loads.

One breakthrough is the pile-tilting device, which replaces complex tandem lifts traditionally needed to tilt or rotate long loads. With this system, a single LR crawler crane can safely handle components up to 90 tonnes, rotating them from horizontal to vertical using two synchronized winches. This reduces the number of operators required and minimizes the space needed—particularly advantageous on crowded urban job sites. The device also cuts diesel consumption and emissions, aligning with sustainability goals.

For floating structures such as barges or pontoons, Liebherr has developed a dedicated operating mode to address the risks posed by shifting inclinations during lifting. The system continuously monitors the floating unit’s tilt (up to 3°), displays real-time data to the operator, and adjusts the crane’s load curves to maintain stability. Warnings are issued if safe thresholds are exceeded, helping to avoid dangerous overload situations or crane tipping.

Additionally, Liebherr’s vertical line finder technology ensures the crane’s boom head remains directly above the load’s centre of gravity, reducing swaying and protecting nearby personnel and structures.

These innovations not only enhance safety but also streamline lifting operations, allowing operators to perform with more confidence and precision—whether on land or water. All new systems are compatible with both current and older LR series crawler cranes.
