Collett & Sons has expanded its heavy transport capabilities with the strategic addition of a new 350 Tonne Greiner Side Girder Bridge System. Engineered to slot perfectly between the company’s existing 150, 250, and 550 Tonne capacity units, the new system fills a key operational gap and reinforces Collett’s ability to handle increasingly complex high and heavy cargo across the UK.
The bridge is already in service under a long-term contract, transporting 35 high-value transformers, each weighing up to 325 Tonnes, from Stafford to Ellesmere Port.
Designed for maximum versatility, the modular system features interchangeable ‘Neck’ and ‘Deck’ beams, allowing it to be configured from 2×8 to 2×18 axle rows depending on the cargo and route. Adjustable side deck lengths (from 3 to 18 metres) and a hydraulically variable internal loading aperture (1.8–4.6 metres) ensure adaptability for diverse cargo requirements.

A key advantage is its ability to support multiple transformer loading methods, including high and low trunnion support, cross beam, and toe support. It also features adjustable deck height—up to +1.9 metres—making it easier to navigate under bridges and through urban areas without major infrastructure changes.
The system includes a unique ‘Z’ beam connector, enabling Schnabel-type configurations by attaching directly to custom-designed loads—eliminating the need for deck beams.
David Collett, Managing Director at Collett & Sons, said: “This new 350 Tonne Greiner sits in a sweet spot between our existing fleet, and is the ‘missing piece of the puzzle.’ It enhances our flexibility and reinforces our commitment to delivering engineered logistics with safety, innovation, and precision at the core.”
