German equipment rental companies are driving the adoption of hydrogen-electric mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), leveraging innovative solutions from Niftylift to deliver zero-emission, energy-efficient performance in urban and remote locations.

As one of the leaders in sustainability, Germany’s updated 2023 National Hydrogen Strategy has strengthened its position as a prime market for hydrogen-powered technologies. Rental companies are investing in all-electric fleets and increasingly incorporating hydrogen-electric models to enhance operational efficiency.

Niftylift’s rental partners in Germany are making significant strides in adopting hydrogen-electric solutions,” says Marcel Schepers, managing director of Niftylift Europe.

Niftylift provides a range of 10 fully electric self-propelled booms, covering working heights from 12.1 to 28 meters. The company’s latest hydrogen-electric models—the HR15 H2E and HR17 H2E—will be showcased at bauma 2025 (Stand FS.1003/2).

With compact and lightweight designs, these machines are easy to transport and maneuver. Their quiet, zero-emission operation is particularly beneficial in cities with strict low-emission regulations, such as Berlin, Hamburg, and Frankfurt.

Hydrogen-electric models also excel in off-grid locations. The HR15 H2E and HR17 H2E can operate for five days on batteries alone, with hydrogen doubling their range. Even with daily use, refueling is needed only every two to three weeks.

Industry professionals recognize the advantages. Hans Denig of Move 4 U and Tobias Hannibal of Mietservice Hannibal highlight hydrogen’s reliability, extended runtime, and minimal noise as key benefits driving demand.

As Germany accelerates its transition to sustainable MEWPs, Niftylift remains committed to providing innovative, environmentally responsible solutions. “Hydrogen technology is just the beginning of a cleaner, greener future,” Schepers concludes.
