The consortium of EDF Renewables and Masdar will build a 400MW wind farm in Saudi Arabia

A consortium of two experts in the renewable energy sector, the French EDF Renewables and Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC), has just won the tender for the Dumat Al Jandal wind farm in Saudi Arabia. Their offer was pre-selected in Riyadh in July 2018 thanks to its best cost competitiveness ($ 21.3 / MWh). Located 900 km from north of Riyadh in the region of Al Jouf, this wind farm with a capacity of 400 MW, the first of Saudi Arabia, will be the most powerful in the Middle East.

Volga-Dnepr Airlines transports a 40-ton Alstom pump in less than 7 hours

The carrier of oversize and super heavy shipments by air Volga-Dnepr Airlines (VDA) and Kintetsu World Express France (KWE) have recently transported an 11,000 hp Alstom motorised pump from Paris-Vatry to Damman in Saudi Arabia. The 40-ton pump, measuring 651x274x311 cm, was carried onboard of Volga-Dnepr’s An-124-100 ramp aircraft just seven days after the initial charter request was received from the customer. To ensure a seamless and intact loading process at both the departure and arrival, Volga-Dnepr’s team used loading equipment such as rail system, extension ramps, skate beams as well as mobile cranes.

“This transportation showcases the benefits of airfreight solutions over other logistics modes, as we were able to deliver this essential spare part back to Saudi Arabia faster than other transport companies. The whole delivery took 6 hours and 45 minutes whereas with sea freight transportation the customer would have waited 20+ days (…),” said Ekaterina Andrea, Deputy Commercial Director, Volga-Dnepr Airlines.

Ale transported two « slug catchers » weighing 2008t from Spain to Saudi Arabia

The heavy lift and abnormal transport company Ale announced they carried successfully two « slug catchers » weighing 2008t between Spain and the Fadhili Gas Program Project site in Saudi Arabia. After crossing the Gijon city center and its narrow streets with 32 axle lines of SPMT going to the port, both items were loaded out on a self-propelled barge upon arrival at Jubail Industrial Port. Over there, they had been installed  on 174 axle lines of SPMT in a configuration of 6 file 30 and 6 file 28 for a 90km journey towards Fadhili. Despite some narrow roads and sand encroachment, Ale managed to convey the « slug catchers » to the destination in time. All in all, Ale planned to deliver five « slug catchers » for the Fadhili gas project, which the three remaining will be transported by the end of this year.

Challenging 2,000km delivery route for Ale in Saudi Arabia

Ale has completed the delivery of two transformers, weighing 75t each, through a 2,000km route to Al Farsha Substation in the south west of Saudi Arabia. The main task of the heavy lifting contractor was to find a feasible solution for transporting the transformers to the power station as the route had never been attempted before. Ale has been the first company to provide the client with a solution, previous attempts had been made by other companies, but was deemed infeasible and only reached Baish, 700km from Jeddah. The final route selected presented many different challenges, such as traversing across 13 cities and towns, climbing to a high-altitude height of 2,500m, descending 1,500m downhill through mountainous passes, negotiating 21 tunnels, performing civil works and working in unpredictable bad weather conditions. Ale has completed this task within eleven days.

ALS wins logistics partner contract for the transportation of 1,185 wagons

The English transport company ALS has participated in the project to transport 1,185 wagons from Poland to Saudi Arabia. The cargo, was divided into three types of wagons with dimensions of L:14.35 m x W:3.20 m x H: 4.50 m for a weight of 30 t each. They were transported by rail from the Polish factory to the port of Gdansk before making the trip by sea to Saudi Arabia. Arriving at Dammam, the wagons were loaded via a ramp onto specially prepared roll trailers with embedded rails, then lashed and secured for the sailing to their final destination. The entire project lasted 20 months.
