Erection frame for Mammoet’s Focus 30 crane is ready

Fabrication of the erection frame for Mammoet’s Focus 30 crane has been completed by PTS Machinery, a heavy construction company based in Hulst, the Netherlands.  Machining and welding of the main steelwork has finished, with dimensional control now being performed to ensure compliance and interconnectivity. The frame has been constructed in six pieces, which will be dismantled and transported to Mammoet’s Westdorpe facility, where preparations are underway for final assembly.

Measuring 30m long, 12m wide and weighing in at 160t, the frame is the largest single-piece item being fabricated for the Focus 30. In fact, its complete erection system weighs in at more than 180t once other parts are taken into consideration – such as the climb frame and skid beam.

Its role in the crane’s design is similarly large. By supporting boom sections vertically, it helps to reduce the space required for the crane’s construction, while making sure none of this work takes place over surrounding crucial infrastructure.

The work on the erection frame started in November 2019 at PTS Machinery in a close collaboration with Mammoet’s engineering teams.

Mammoet Senior Lead Engineer Erik Visser commented: “As a high-tech manufacturer of all kinds of machinery, PTS was selected to build this “machine inside the machine Their attention to detail and quality make them the right partner to supply this vital component for the Focus 30.”
